Taejon Christian International School

Taejon Christian International School (TCIS) is a Christian international school in Daejeon offering an English-language K-12 pathway and the International Baccalaureate continuum. Its day and boarding options serve different age and guardianship circumstances. The historic spelling Taejon remains part of the school identity; this is the South Korean school, distinct from similarly abbreviated schools overseas.
School levels and curriculum
Grade levels: High school, Kindergarten, Middle school, Primary school.
School stages and IB study
| Stage | Program and planning points |
|---|---|
| Kindergarten-elementary | Primary Years Programme: inquiry-based early and primary learning. K1/K2 entry-age criteria must be checked against the July 31 cutoff. |
| Grades 6-10 | Middle Years Programme: subject learning, inquiry and progressively independent research. Middle and early high school form one IB progression. |
| Grades 11-12 | Diploma Programme: university-preparatory study. Transfer applicants need an individual IB continuity and graduation review before a place can be confirmed. |
IB enrollment does not by itself guarantee a diploma result or admission to a particular university. Ask for the current subject offerings, level combinations, learning support and language placement. Families should also review the school's Christian worldview and community expectations when deciding whether its educational setting fits their child.
Admissions and placement
Eligibility, language and guardianship
- The school describes an exception in the Daedeok research zone allowing eligible Korean nationals to apply without three years abroad.
- A foreign-passport child with two Korean-national parents does not automatically qualify through the foreign category; admissions must review the family's exact route.
- Immigration permission and lawful residence remain the family's responsibility.
- TCIS does not act as a legal guardian.
- K1, K2 and Grade 1 entry ages are respectively four, five and six by July 31. Admission considers English, mathematics and readiness; Grades 1-12 also complete writing.
- English-language-learning assessment may be required.
- Korea-based applicants assess on campus, overseas applicants by the approved online process.
- There is no verified universal IELTS, TOEFL or TOPIK cutoff for school admission.

Scholarships and fee support
Discounts and scholarship limits
The FAQ says no scholarships are offered to incoming students; academic awards may exist for enrolled students. It lists a 20% tuition reduction for younger siblings concurrently attending. The fee page refers qualifying KAIST/IBS employee families to the applicable agreement. Obtain written eligibility, covered components and renewal terms; these provisions do not establish a universal scholarship, living stipend or full boarding waiver.

Housing and campus life
Campus and living arrangements
Boarding serves Grades 6-12. For Grades 6-8, a parent/legal guardian must reside in Korea. Grades 9-12 may board without a parent living in Korea, subject to immigration approval and school requirements. Dormitories have holiday and some weekend closures; students need approved arrangements outside operating periods. The fee page quotes additional provisional daily costs for certain students without a Korea-based guardian, so request the full calendar and cost schedule before accepting boarding.
