Scholarship Value/ Inclusions for SK Global Scholarship at Korea University

The SK Global Scholarship provides extensive financial support to ensure scholars can focus entirely on their academic and research pursuits:

  • Round-trip Airfare: Up to 3,000,000 KRW, provided at the time of initial entry (maximum 1,500,000 KRW) and final departure (maximum 1,500,000 KRW), based on actual expenses with receipt submission.

  • Entrance Fee: 1,142,000 KRW fully covered at the beginning of the first semester.

  • Tuition Fee: 7,392,000 KRW per semester for a total of four semesters, covering the full two-year duration of the master’s program.

  • Living Expenses: 1,500,000 KRW per month throughout the two-year period.

  • Medical Insurance: Coverage at the standard amount set by Korea University, provided monthly as a private insurance plan separate from the National Health Insurance system.

  • Korean Language Training (Optional): Available at a cost determined by the university, typically offered in the month prior to the start of the first semester.

Eligibility Criteria for SK Global Scholarship at Korea University

To be considered for the SK Global Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Citizenship

  • Applicants must hold citizenship from one of the eligible regions:

    • Europe (19 countries): Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine.

    • Southeast Asia (11 countries): East Timor, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines.

    • East Asia (2 regions – Semiconductor field only): Japan, Taiwan.

    • South Asia (2 countries): India, Pakistan.

  • The applicants must be international students.

  • If an applicant’s citizenship changes to a region outside the eligible list during the selection process, the applicant will be excluded from evaluation.

Academic Background

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or be expected to graduate from an accredited university prior to enrollment.

Language Proficiency

Applicants must submit proof of English or Korean language ability by providing one or more of the following:

  • TOEFL iBT score of 71 or higher (Home Edition and Enhancement accepted).

  • Academic IELTS score of 5.5 or higher (IELTS Home Test not accepted).

  • CEFR level B2 or higher (CEFR Online Test through EFSET accepted).

  • New TEPS score of 326 or higher.

  • TOPIK level 3 or higher score report.

  • Exemption: Applicants who completed their bachelor’s degree in an English-speaking program are not required to submit proof of language proficiency.

Fields of Study

The SK Global Scholarship admits up to 20 students per cohort, with 10 students selected for the AI/IT track and 10 students for the Semiconductor track, ensuring focused attention and resources for each specialized field.

For the AI/IT track, students may pursue their studies within the Informatics College, with available departments and majors including Computer Science and Engineering with specializations in Artificial Intelligence Applications, Software, Computer Security, Radio Communications Engineering, and Computer Education, as well as the Department of Artificial Intelligence with a major in Artificial Intelligence. This track is designed for students seeking to advance their expertise in cutting-edge computing technologies and artificial intelligence applications.

For the Semiconductor track, students have the opportunity to conduct research in world-class laboratories across multiple departments. In the Department of Electrical Engineering, available labs include the Optimal Analysis & Solutions for Integrated Systems Lab led by Professor Kim Yong Sin, the Advanced Integrated System Lab led by Professor Kim Chulwoo, the AI Hardware & 3D Integration Lab led by Professor Song Min-Kyu, and the Device and Circuit Lab led by Professor Shin Changhwan. In the Department of Physics, students may join the Condensed Matter Physics Experiment and Ferromagnetic Semiconductor Nanostructures Lab led by Professor Lee Sanghoon. Within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, available research groups include the Nano Materials and Device Lab led by Professor Lee Heon, the Nanomaterials for Electronics and Optics Lab led by Professor Jeon Seokwoo, the Solar Energy Conversion Lab led by Professor Kim Dong Hoe, and the Optoelectronic Materials Lab led by Professor Lee In-Hwan. Additionally, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering offers the Chung Lab, focusing on Quantum Material and Semiconductor Thin Films and Devices, led by Professor Chung Yoon Jang. How to Apply?

The application process for the SK Global Scholarship at Korea University Graduate School is designed to be straightforward and accessible, with no application fee required.

Applicants are required to submit an online admission application along with all necessary documents. Once submitted, application documents are evaluated by the review committee of each respective department. There are no standardized exams or interviews required as part of the general process; however, an interview may be conducted if specifically requested by the department. Final results are announced following the completion of the review process, and successful candidates are notified as officially selected SK Global Scholars.
