Gyeongsang National University (GNU) offers undergraduate degrees and graduate research in southern Korea, with study across engineering, computing, aerospace, business, agriculture, humanities and marine sciences. This profile separates the general undergraduate route, Global Interdisciplinary Studies and graduate admissions so students can compare programs, reference fees, language requirements and funding conditions without mixing their rules.

For master's, doctoral and combined master's/PhD study, use the separate graduate recruitment matrix. Its degree and availability columns control, including rows marked No Admission. The guide identifies 39 departments offering an English track, including examples such as Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, AI Convergence Engineering, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, Smart Farm, Bio and Medical Big Data, and Smart Distribution and Logistics. English admission evidence is limited to eligible English-track departments; do not infer this route for every graduate major.

General admission criteria

Entry, transfer and language requirements

  • General undergraduate applicants and both parents must have non-Korean nationality and meet the guide's nationality-history rules.
  • Recognized elementary, middle and high-school completion is required.
  • GED, homeschooling and cyber-learning qualifications are excluded.
  • Third-year transfers need the stated two years/four semesters at a four-year university or an eligible completed two-/three-year college qualification.
  • Current GNU students and those on leave cannot use this transfer route.
  • General undergraduate Korean routes: TOPIK 3, or TOPIK 2 for the stated Arts/Physical Education exception; Sejong intermediate 1/SKA 321; KIIP level 3/pretest 61; or the specified one-year D-4 university Korean program plus an equivalent in-house test. Global Interdisciplinary Studies adds its own GNU assessment/course-completion alternatives. IELTS is not listed as a general bachelor's substitute.
  • Graduate academic route: master's and combined Type I applicants need a recognized bachelor's degree; doctoral applicants need a master's. Combined Type II is a separate progression route for eligible existing GNU master's students with the stated semester/credit conditions.
  • Graduate language: TOPIK 3 or Sejong intermediate 2 is the Korean route. Eligible English-track departments accept IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 59 for older tests or 3.5 for tests from 21 January 2026, CEFR B2 or New TEPS 202. The guide lists conditional language exemptions, including specified English-language-country circumstances and approved Form 5; a generic MOI letter is not a blanket waiver.
  • Prepare authenticated degree/school records, transcripts, nationality/family evidence, valid language proof, passport and financial evidence. Graduate applicants follow the study/recommendation and route-specific form checklist. Performance-video requirements apply to the specified arts routes. Admission and graduation language requirements are separate.

Tuition fees and study costs

The current guides retain 2026 reference fees in KRW, subject to change. Undergraduate table headings give the reference year but do not explicitly label the billing period; confirm the semester invoice and annual total directly. The figures below are not final 2027 invoices and are before scholarships.
Undergraduate category 2026 guide reference tuition, KRW
Humanities, social sciences, business and law 1,779,000
Global Interdisciplinary Studies 1,899,000
Ethnic Dance 2,044,000
Natural sciences; specified agriculture/marine natural-science categories 2,172,000
Engineering, IT, aerospace and specified engineering categories 2,338,000
Pre-Veterinary Medicine 2,703,000
Veterinary Medicine transfer 3,166,000
Graduate category 2026 class-fee reference, KRW First-entry admission fee, KRW
Humanities/social sciences 2,408,000 180,000
Natural sciences, Physical Education, Pharmacy 2,981,000 180,000
Engineering 3,208,000 180,000
Arts 3,274,000 180,000
Medicine and Veterinary Medicine 4,085,000 180,000
The graduate guide's first-entry totals therefore range from KRW 2,588,000 to KRW 4,265,000 across these categories. Use the actual registration bill for the applicable semester and classification. The standard application fee is KRW 70,000. The dedicated Global Interdisciplinary Studies application track has a specified fee waiver; being placed there as a third choice through the general track does not receive that waiver. Add housing, meals, insurance, document authentication, courier and travel costs separately.

Scholarships and support

Scholarships and financial support

Read full scholarships and financial support — including route restrictions
  • Undergraduate Step-UP Leaders entrance: TOPIK 4 gives full tuition for the first semester; TOPIK 5-6 adds a one-time KRW 500,000 living allowance. The relevant TOPIK proof and validity deadlines apply, and awards remain within semester budgets.
  • Continuing Step-UP Leaders: TOPIK 4 or higher, at least 10 previous-semester credits and GPA 3.0/3.5/4.0 correspond to 50%/two-thirds/full tuition in the guide. Do not assume entrance funding renews without those conditions.
  • Eutteum Gaechuk merit: new-student ranking combines TOPIK and admission evaluation, while enrolled-student merit uses its credit/GPA conditions. The amount can change with available funding. Sibling and other living-support awards have separate rules.
  • Global Interdisciplinary Studies: the guide lists a first-semester 50% tuition waiver for TOPIK 3 and full tuition for TOPIK 4+, plus specified first-year residence/settlement support and one-time airfare up to KRW 1,000,000. Applicants already living in Korea are excluded from airfare support. Residence/meal support is capped at the stated actual expenses, with some utility costs payable separately. Later-semester tuition support requires language and GPA conditions.
  • Graduate full-time scholarship: recipients must meet all stated conditions, including unemployed full-time status, being within five years of their previous degree and research-performance obligations. The guide provides full tuition for the first two semesters when eligible, with continued support subject to performance criteria from semester three. External/BK21 and other tuition awards cannot be double-counted contrary to the rules.
  • Financial proof: the guides generally use KRW 16,000,000 with account, sponsor, issue-date and original-document conditions. The graduate guide permits specified financial-sponsor/scholarship evidence; if support is insufficient, proof of the remaining balance is required. A prospective advisor's involvement does not automatically establish a research stipend.
